About the Album
Well, what’s there to day? Day 25 brings us a 6 song EP from Philadelphia native sons, The Boils, titled The Orange and The Black. 6 hockey fight songs dedicated to their hometown (and my favorite team) the Philadelphia Flyers.
Thoughts on the album
I’d review the whole tracklist but at six songs, it makes for sense to review the whole album. Lets face it, I’m not shamed to admit I love Philadelphia. This album dedicated to the Flyers (and hockey in general), made me want to shout along to the choruses. The song “Bullies” is a tribute to the 1970’s Philadelphia Flyers, whose moniker was the “Broad Street Bullies”. It has rarity in the sound: street punk with a sense of humor. One could make the argument that this is The Boils best album/release, but I won’t make that assumption.
I love The Orange and The Black simply because: it overflows with a non-ironic affection for its subject (the Philadelphia Flyers). For some strange reason, it is oddly refreshing to hear street punk delivered without the usual bile. To think of all the steadily increasing punk records about hockey, this is one of the most enjoyable… mostly because it’s about the Philadelphia Flyers. Let’s go Flyers!
All that said… WAKE UP PHILADELPHIA AND LET ME HEAR YA SING, THE ORANGE AND THE BLACK, THE ORANGE AND THE BLACK!
