Artist of the Day: Valencia

So… they might not have anything to do with today’s album, but today’s artist of the day is Toms River, New Jersey’s own, Valencia. The band consists of Shane Henderson on vocals, Daniel Pawlovich on drums, George Ciukurescu on bass, and Brendan Walter on guitar. They are currently on hiatus.

The band in it’s current form was formed in 2004. Rumor has it that the band is named after the protagonist’s wife (Valencia) in Kurt Vonnegut’s novel, Slaughterhouse-Five. In 2005 they released their debut album, This Could Be A Possibility. The band’s second album, We All Need a Reason to Believe, was released in 2008. Their third album, Dancing With a Ghost, was released in 2010.

Here is an article as to Henderson opening up on why Valencia is on hiatus.

They band’s sound is that of melodic pop-punk/alternative rock. Henderson’s vocals provide the urgency and melody. It is a smooth urgency. Their songs are highly catchy, for which you will find yourself singing along to.
